September Silliness

It seems like we were just in California yesterday. Time is surely an interesting phenomenon. Here is an overview of the month of September so far. The kids are back in school, and though it’s officially “Autumn” in Nice, the weather is still very summer-y. We are thankful to continue enjoying the sea when we can. Mornings are cooler as we walk to school, but I’m not yet ready to say that Fall is totally upon us.

Tonton Seb and Tata Maïna bought the kids these super fun rafts. Thanks guys - they are perfect!

Will you look at that water? God’s creation never ceases to make me catch my breath in awe. And that red head? I mean c’mon!!! Such an incredible person he is becoming!

I like baking, probably more than cooking. Here is my first attempt at cake donuts. They were ok, but I’m looking forward to upping my donut game. I still dream about the old fashioned glazed donuts I ate in California this summer. Mmmmmm!

Here is the up and coming generation at church. Daphné joined the smaller kids group for a little banana smile. Django is in between groups, not quite a baby and not quite in primary school. The best part is that he can flow with any group he’s with.

Daphné has homework. Our lives are all changed! I’m learning a TON with her, and she is not shy to correct my pronunciation of French words... haha!

Django eagerly awaits his turn with the dentist. I love that my kids like going to the dentist. Mission accomplished!

I really appreciate the dentist’s philosophy that small kids lay on their parents’ body. Django is seriously so calm and so obedient. I think his favorite thing is sucking on the spit sucker. Haha.

And since their teeth were super duper clean, we went out for churros! Yum! I like churros and donuts… deep friend sugary goodness!

Papi brought Django an after-school snack. It’s difficult to refuse a fresh croissant from the local boulangerie.

My bestest mama friends in Nice!!! I love these girls, Maki and Ave. Friends since 2016. Kids are similar ages. They get me. I get them. They remind me I’m not crazy. Cheers to raising kids in international families in France!

So, I love this picture for many reasons : 1) his cute little piggies 2) his awesome hair 3) the piercing brown eyes and 4) the map. The kids both now have the reflex to run grab the map whenever we talk about people we love in other parts of the world. I think I want to get a big one for the wall.

Reunited. Daphné and Saféya have been friends since they were both 3. They have been in the same class for 3 years, but this is the first year they aren’t. Daphné is now at a different school, but their friendship is still so precious. I love watching them play together and how they love each other. And Django is just cool to follow (at least for now…haha).

Daphné is a bright light at the park. She seriously has a gift to exude joy everywhere she goes.

Every morning, I get to wake this little angel. We have had our ups and downs with sleep. I’m so thankful to the Lord for how well he sleeps now. Thank you to all of you who prayed for our family when we were in the trenches of sleeplessness. God is faithful. He carried us through. He is truly amazing!

And to end with a little silliness to go with the title of this blog and some of the pictures, here is a poem by Shel Silverstein called “Put Something In” from A Light in the Attic.

Draw a crazy picture,
Write a nutty poem,
Sing a mumble-gumble song,
Whistle through your comb.
Do a loony-goony dance
‘Cross the kitchen floor,
Put something silly in the world
That ain’t been there before.

Cheers to being silly,

Love Linz
