Synchronized Swimming Gala

Each year, Daphné tries out something new. She still hasn’t found her activity that she absolutely LOVES… yet. She has done ballet (at 3 years-old - it was adorable), introduction to music, contemporary dance, rock climbing, jazz, swimming and drum roll please… synchronized swimming. We are so proud of all the hard work she put in during the school year. It was a lot. And the big event at the end of the year to show off what they learned is the Gala.

Did you know they put straight-up gelatin in their hair? It’s equally gross and beautiful.

Here is our little swimmer after the practice, before the show. The swim cap was to protect the gelatin for the big event in an hour. I also like that the colors of her suit are the colors of my university Alma mater at Point Loma Nazarene University, green and gold.

She is so lovely in every way, just a pure delight.

They called this the défilé, which can be used for parade or the run way in the fashion world. Can you spot her?

Hi guys! She spotted her fan club.

It was Tonio, me, Pierre, Nancy, Cricri and…

…our friend Caroline. Caroline has become like an Auntie to our kids. She has been one of their babysitters from very young, and she leads Daphné’s Sunday school class often. Such a treasure. Daphné was so happy to have her their to watch her performance.

Here is Daphné’s group. They are actually two separate levels mixed together. They won’t all swim together for the same routine.

This was the introduction to the whole show! ALL the swimmers from ages 4 to 30-something were in the pool. The divers were doing crazy flips on the 3 diving boards to the right, while fun music played and the swimmers splashed in circles. It was full-on sensory overload, but amazing!

Here is part of Daphné’s routine.

Daphné is the closest one to us in the photo, her leg is up.

After the show, she wanted a good picture of her make-up. She even kept it on overnight and wore it to church the next day.

Caroline and Daphné.

Proud Papa and Mama.

The family (minus Django - we left him at home with a sitter - he would have been so bored).

Selfie by Daphné. The make-up they used was like paint and obviously very waterproof.

Dear Daphné, if you ever read this one day, please know that your Papa and your Mama are so proud of you. You stuck with it, worked hard and did a beautiful performance. We love you and love supporting you as you discover things you enjoy a lot, and even the things you enjoy a little less. Cheers to an accomplished year! And no, you don’t have to do synchronized swimming again next year. Ha! We love you big girl!

Love Mama
