Favorites of 2023

I really enjoy end-of-the-year reflection. I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite things in 8 different categories this year.

MOVIE - CODA (2021)

I can’t believe it took me so long to see this, especially after it won the Oscar for Best Picture in 2022. I loved it so much. I laughed and cried and laughed some more. What a beautiful story. I identified with Ruby in so many different ways.

ANIMATED FILM - Leo (2023)

I loved Adam Sandler as Drac in the Hotel Transylvania films, and he does it again. This lizard Leo is so endearing and the stories so heart-warming. There’s some classic Sandler singing and humor, which is the cherry on top.

TV SERIES - Andor (2022)

Tonio and I have the luxury of having day dates, since our schedules are flexible. We watched this series over many months during lunch dates at home. It's so good! I really love Star Wars, but I don’t even think you need to be a Star Wars fan to absolutely love this series. From start to finish, it’s intense and masterfully executed.

PODCAST - The Popcast

Their tag line says it all! I listen to podcasts mostly to have a brain break, so this is the PERFECT listen for me. Knox and Jamie are a hilarious duo of banter and nonsense, and I love them!

BOOK - Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir

I reviewed it on my Books Lindsey Read in 2023 post. SO. GOOD.

ALBUM - Switchfoot’s The Beautiful Letdown 20th Anniversary (Our Version) [Delux edition]

I will always love Switchfoot. Ever since I saw them on the baseball field of Point Loma Nazarene University back in my early 20s, I’ve been hooked. This 20th anniversary version is so fun because known artists like Noah Gundersen, Reliant K, Owl City, The Jonas Brothers and Sleeping at Last cover the whole album. It’s a combination of nostalgia and pure ingenuity to hear the different versions of the same songs I know and love.

RECIPE - Thai Chicken Coconut Curry

I think I made it twice a month, and even then, I think I could up the frequency to once a week. It’s just so delicious. Tonio loves it. I love it. It’s a win all around. The kids are still not into spicy, but that’s great… more for us!!!

HOUSEHOLD MACHINE - the dishwasher

Tonio installed our dishwasher in September of 2022 (photo above is not ours, thank you google images), so I have now experienced all the seasons with this magical machine. I think the washing machine is one that I would have a REALLY hard time without, but the dishwasher is just this amazing bonus of wonder. I actually enjoy being in the kitchen now. The dread of the dish pile is no more.

I hope you enjoyed. Happy New Year! What are some of your favorites from 2023?

Love Linz
