Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner

On Saturday, September 30, 2023, over 50 people gathered in 8 different homes. We call it “Devine Qui Vient Dîner” or “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner”. We have done it several times now times with the church, and I can confidently say that it’s always a highlight for everyone that participates.

The concept is simple : either you are the surprise (guests) or you are surprised (hosts). The guests know where they are going, but the hosts only know how many people are coming, not who. Knock, knock… who’s there? SURPRISE!

Maurice, Mireille, Michaël and Pascal went to Gilles and Marion’s home.

Craig, Barbara and Juliet went to Moïse, Prudence, Bénie and Guélia’s home.

Shikata, Eunice, Morgane and Fernando went to Luis, Gloria and Emmanuel’s home.

Pierre, Nancy, Cathy and Wayne went to Paul and Elisabeth’s home just over the border in Italy.

Our new group of Germans who come to serve every year in the Muslim neighborhoods with a kids homework outreach : Ben, Livia, Zoe, Davina and Lea all came to our house. Since I organized the event, it was not a surprise for us, but I told them that I chose them =). They felt special. Such a sweet group this year!

Sebastien, Frances, Lorenzo and Eli went to Sebastien, Ellie, Ben, Jess and Abi’s home.

Jonathan, Ashlyn and Enzo went to the newlyweds’, Benoît and Marina’s home.

Xavier, Elodie and Hadrien went to Gor, Milena, Lorena and Andreas’ home.

I think the beauty of this “soirée” is that it keeps people flexible with a challenge to love people out of our comfort zone. We can tend to get into habits of talking to the same people after church, inviting the same people over for a meal… because it’s easy. This really mixes up the church, and it’s always a blessing to see the fellowship the next day at church. That many more people know each other that much better.

In making the groups, I always ask God for wisdom. He guides the groups according to location and who has access to a car or not. It’s so beautiful to be a part of His family. I mean look at these people - they are amazing! We are so blessed and humbled by each one.
