XXII Congrès National de l’APEL

That’s a pretty fancy title, I know. French is just fancy, what can I say? Haha. In May, I was able to volunteer for a big event that gathered together about 2,000 people from all over France, even the French islands, for a 3-day “congress” or “conference” for people involved in the parent associations in the Catholic school system. Many teachers, staff, administrators and other lay people were there too. It’s was a fun learning experience for me.

My original post was here in the “vestiaires”, but I got switched around.

I helped these ladies (also mamas) organize the t-shirts.

Piles by size.

And I got one and took one for Tonio =).

So, I look tired because I am. I don’t know if you remember in the Cyprus post, but I was really sick for a week or so. This is me just getting a little better.

Every person attending the conference got a tote bag with goodies. I got to take two home as well.

Here is one of the rooms where they held a workshop.

This is the dining room.

This place can seat over a thousand people. I never helped here, because I only volunteered for the mornings.

An example of one of the workshop rooms.

They fed the volunteers. Yummy Niçois salad and a pear-chocolate tarte. The French definitely don’t mess around when it comes to food. So good. And I definitely brought home a wrap and a dessert for Tonio.

This was another post of mine, but they needed me elsewhere, so I left the high schoolers to cover for me. Ha.

Here is where I spent most of Saturday morning, checking people in. Giving them their name tag and tote bag. I really enjoyed it.

Here’s a youtube recap video showing the volunteers and a peak into the conference. You can see the side of me and my white backpack at 38 seconds, and you can see my Hutchinson nose at 42 seconds. Ha. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5UMLVJQaNw

I was thankful to see how many people care about education. And I think the coolest part is they want to keep growing and changing to see our kids succeed in the best way.
